What is the composition of Ospelt’s pet food products?
The components of our pet food products are given on the packaging, in descending order. Our standard wet pet food is made up of about 60-65% meat and animal derivatives for patés and 38-43% for products with sauce or jelly, which origin from meat and offal (liver, spleen, kidneys etc.) from cows, chickens or pigs, as well as whichever animal is advertised. After that, on about 1-4%, come derivatives of vegetable origin (mainly nutritionally important dietary fibre known as “roughage” and carbohydrates), as well as minerals.
Meat and animal derivatives:
The feed category “meat and animal derivatives” is a legally defined term and includes meat and organs from healthy slaughtered animals, such as cattle, pigs and poultry, as well as the respective other labelled animal species that have been approved by the authorities for human consumption. Raw materials that are not used in the food sector for commercial reasons due to a lack of demand, such as liver, kidney, spleen, stomach, lung and heart of the above-mentioned animal species, are used.
Derivatives of vegetable origin – Grains:
Our wet pet food contains a small percentage (approx. 1 – 4%) of starchy ingredients such as wheat, maize or tapioca, which serve to bind the food so that an optimal consistency can be achieved. These raw materials are by-products from plant product processing and are therefore labelled in the feed category “derivatives of vegetable origin”.
